From the dark side of the fashion industry to creating “Wearable Art” in Sapporo.
Five years ago, and now.
In 2021, I wrote about the harsh reality behind the glamorous fashion industry—the blood, sweat, and tears shed for cheap, mass-produced clothing.
Back then, I was driven by a sense of urgency and anger toward the system.
But as the years passed, I arrived at a more fundamental question:
“When did we start accepting that we must squeeze our unique selves into a pre-made ‘mold’ called ready-to-wear?”
Escaping the Mechanism of Mass Production
I once stood in a world that chased “efficiency” and “sales volume.” But I have distanced myself from that now. I realized I didn’t want to spend my life creating clothes that would be discarded in heaps, made for someone I’d never meet.
Once I stepped outside the frame of ready-to-wear, I saw something beautiful: the earnest, deeply personal desires—the “selfishness” in the best sense—of each individual.
Breaking the Addiction to Consumption
What is “consumption”?
It’s more than just environmental pollution or human rights issues.
It is the unnatural state where humans are no longer the protagonists of their own clothing, but merely cogs in the wheel of consumption.
We force ourselves into “molds” found in stores or online, buy values with an expiration date called “trends,” and discard them shortly after.
Having lived with atopic dermatitis and sensitive skin my whole life, I felt this unnaturalness more than most.
“Bloodless clothes” drenched in chemicals never healed my skin—or my soul.
Summoning Clothes to Your Philosophy
I often ask myself: “Is there a need for more things in this world?”
I decided to leave the system of ready-to-wear behind.
Instead of fitting yourself into a product, I propose “summoning” the clothes to your own body type, your lifestyle, and your non-negotiable philosophy.
This is what I call “Wearable Art.”
Because these pieces are crafted by a single human, only a handful can be sent into the world each year.
They are not consumables; they are companions that resonate with the owner’s life, meant to be repaired and cherished for ten, twenty years.
A Happy Destination for Fashion Business
I believe a future exists where neither the buyer nor the maker is sacrificed.
A world where clothes are welcomed not as disposables, but as art that expresses the self.
This shift starts with our choices.
Not the addiction to “cheapness,” but the richness of an “encounter” with a single piece.
A relationship where you see the maker’s face, feel the intent, and grow old together with the garment.
Loving one piece deeply—this choice saves the environment, protects the dignity of the maker, and enriches the heart of the wearer.
This is the future of fashion I want to present.
Final Thoughts
The era where clothes were the protagonist is over.
The protagonist is always the human who wears them.
From my small studio in Sapporo, I will continue to solve your “selfish” desires and shape garments that dwell close to your soul.
My needle may not solve all the world’s problems instantly, but within every millimeter it passes, I weave honesty, integrity, and hope for the future.
